If you’re unfamiliar with Pretty Lights sets, you’re in for a new world. I was lucky enough to experience their 2024 Bonnaroo Sunrise Set, and I can confidently say it was unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed.
As the sun rose deep into the night, they made a new day. Instead of continuing the energy of what was expected, they introduced a quiet beat of relaxing rhythms, slowly infusing the chords and vocals of well-known and well-loved songs. They didn’t jolt the crowd awake with a thumping beat; Pretty Lights gave love, connection, and clarity to an entire crowd of restless festival-goers. I relive the beauty of this set in my head when I think about how extraordiany it was. An entire festival curated by Pretty Lights can be expected to be nothing short of magical, and for their second year up and running, plus an annual commitment, can only mean this year will bring even more unexpected moments filled with euphoric adventures.
From September 18-20, Pretty Lights is doing something at Yahn Dawn they’ve never done before: building a whole weekend around the shape of his career. It’s tied to his new album, A Trip Thru Time Fantastic, and the concept is that each night carries you through a different chapter of his sound, in order, an artist painting a series of their life, someone telling you the whole story of how they got here.
They’re calling it the Soundship Space Bus, and it’s not the first time Pretty Lights has led us through the galaxy. Last year it was the Soundship Solarsystem, a maiden voyage for the live band’s return to the mountains. Now the ship’s bigger, the trip’s longer, and instead of exploring new territory, it’s tracing back through where we have perhaps been. It’s the same feeling I felt after watching that Bonnaroo sunrise set; this project has never been interested in just giving you a good time. It’s always going to take you somewhere.
It starts Thursday, September 17th, and is for Early Arrival pass holders only: a DJ set from founding members Derek Vincent Smith and Michal Menert, built entirely around the debut album, Taking Up Your Precious Time. It’s a fitting place to start a weekend that’s framed as a walk through the whole timeline.
Through three subsequent nights of live band headlining exhibitions, ‘A Trip Thru Time’ will continue to surface the creative fire that fuels Pretty Lights’ catalogue, with the band thoughtfully diving through beloved fan favorites, deep cuts, and new material from A Trip Thru Time Fantastic. This immersion serves as a deeply revealing look into the past and present of Pretty Lights, where he’s been and where he’s stepping into now.
Yahn Dawn is now a three-day festival, and the lineup is worth paying attention to.
Friday, opening day, we will see sets by Femme House creator LP Giobbi, who’s bringing a Dead House set – Grateful Dead songs reworked through various strains of house for a funky, psychedelic ride designed for sustained movement. Mikey Thunder will bring his left-field bass sound, alongside Maddy O’Neal’s MADHAUS, Midicinal, Faceplant, TheBusiness. and R!AHT.
Saturday leans heavier, lower, bassier. Emanicpator brings his full ensemble. Thought Process plays liquid drum & bass, and Pheel and WeSelects dig into underground dubstep and lo-fi wubs. Rounding out the day: Shooka, Underlux, Parrott, and Dark City Agent.
Sunday closes the weekend with an eclectic run of low-end sonics, helmed by left-field icon Gramatik, instrumental hip-hop trailblazer RJD2, and Saturna. Homemade Spaceship, TF Marz, Mithridates, Mondokoosh, Pants, and Hyperspace Sky all make their Yahn Dawn debuts to complete the weekend.
Returning to its home of Meadow Creek, located in the beautiful bucolic Collegiate Peaks of Buena Vista, Colorado. Pretty Lights asks attendees to respect the land that allows everyone to unite. If you are planning to camp, bring trash bags and a trash can (even a strong string to tie the bag up). Bring large shareable water jugs or a beverage jug cooler. Without the land, there wouldn’t be a festival; there wouldn’t be your experience. Garbage, recycling, and compost bins are provided in the campgrounds and the venue. Refer to the signage and be conscious of where you place your trash. Dont forget to bring a debit or credit card, as some vendors will strictly be cashless.
Yahn Dawn keeps its ticket structure flexible rather than locking people into one package. Single-day and weekend passes are both available, and from there you can add on Thursday Early Arrival, pre-set glamping, RV parking, and a few other options depending on how you want to experience the weekend. VIP passes come with merch and earlier entry, and the VIP Total Fascination Package goes further: a Luna Bell tent already set up, Thursday Early Arrival included, and a campsite positioned for the easiest walk into the venue.
True to its roots, Yahn Dawn keeps its focus on connection to nature and one another. For the festival’s 2026 edition, attendees can expect an expanded curation of wellness programming, live art installations, and experiential elements – features that make like a mountainside family gathering.
