Gem & Jam Takes over the Arizona Desert in a FEW WEEKS!
We made it another year around the sun and Gem & Jam is back and better than ever before! The three-day camping festival takes place February 3rd-6th and will be lighting up the desert at the Pima County Fairgrounds in Tuscon, Arizona. This year is the 15th installment of the 3- day festival and packed with over 40 musical artists, live painting, unique vendors, and daily workshops. This year is particularly special with the unique shows the curators are bringing to the line-up including an immersive sound healing set, tribute sets, and some debut performances!
Once In A Lifetime Sets!
One of my favorite bands The String Cheese Incident, is playing two sets this year, and I couldn’t be more excited. Along with paying during both of the sets, their drummer Michael Travis will also perform alongside Aaron Johnston of The David Byrne Band in their new improvisational electronic act Snakes & Stars. It’s fantastic to see the acts intertwine and create their own unique sounds.
Another one I will be sure to catch is the special Lightcode Immersive sound healing experience by LSDREAM. It has been played at Electric Forest, Lightning In A Bottle, and Okeechobee. It is going to be an immersive sonic healing experience featuring original music, guided meditations, and sound baths. Something so unique I definitely won’t be missing it!
For the fans that love the Talking Heads and The Grateful Dead, there is a hybrid tribute show performing as the Talking Dead. This is a project from Life During Wartime and Garcia Birthday Band, that brings unique marathon performances with seamless full-band transitions and no set breaks. This high-energy, celebratory set is sure to be one for the books!

Along with those incredible sets, be sure to take a moment to check out The Floozies, and Emancipator, The Motet, Dirtwire, Ott, SoDown, The Funk Hunters, Mark Farina, and Marvel Years. A few other acts making their Gem & Jam festival debuts include Justin Martin, Ayla Nereo, Haywyre, Aqueous, EAZYBAKED, Justin Jay, The Nth Power, Poranguí, and Ravenscoon.
While this is my 5th time attending the festival personally, every year seems to highlight a different aspect that makes Gem & Jam so special and dear to my heart. One of my favorites is the “all the homies” takeover at the opal stage. This is a whole line-up packed with local Arizona talent, and it always has the most welcome community vibes. Some acts you can catch there are Auxlee, Cobra Shell, Jaybird, and many more!
The curators at Gem & Jam have spent so much time and creative energy working to bring you the best, most immersive, and most entertaining festival there is. Music will be playing for most of the day each day, workshops and unique artists of all types around every corner, and friendly faces everywhere you look.
