Farius Celebrates Pride with Tribute to Harvey Milk

Farius celebrates Pride month with tribute to Harvey Milk on Apple Music guest mix

Get ready to celebrate Pride Month with us! When it comes to the trance and progressive world in 2020, there are not many people that have seen the meteoric rise than the UK producer/DJ Farius. The release of his debut album From The Start has received huge support across the board. Armin Van Buuren and Above & Beyond support the up and coming artist. In addition, there is major support across both Apple Music and Spotify playlisting. Farius is also set to be a guest on Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy mix series, as well as Armin Van Buuren’s A State of Trance later this summer. Talk about a rising star!

In celebration of this year’s pride month, the London based DJ has partnered up with Apple Music to deliver an exclusive guest mix. Throughout the mix, he takes you through a musical journey of colors, coming out, and love which are resemblant in each hand-picked track.

About the Pride Mix

To open up the guest mix, Farius pays tribute to the late Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in the US, and a huge pioneer in the growth of the LGBT community we see today.

When describing the tribute, Farius said: “In the year that Harvey Milk would have turned 90, I wanted to pay tribute to him by writing an opening track around one of his famous speeches he made in 1978, three weeks before his assassination.”

Farius further opens up about the significance of his mix: “I think it’s fantastic that Apple Music is supporting and shining a spotlight on LBGT+ artists again this year. I recently read a Billboard article which discussed the fact that EDM is a by-product of the music created by gay black men in Chicago in the early 80s, but is today dominated by straight, white men and I couldn’t agree more.

Celebrating Pride

Labels like Enhanced and Anjunabeats are making waves with their open support for LGBT+ artists. Notably, after the 2016 Orlando shooting in LGBT+ nightclub Pulse, trance trio Above & Beyond were the only act at EDC to show support for the community just a few weeks later by changing their stage visuals to a huge rainbow. Anjunabeats, their label, has Pride merchandise with the Anjuna logo on a rainbow flag. Similarily, Enhanced has recently followed suit in an act of solidarity by changing its logo to a rainbow logo across all their social media platforms. This also includes looking at merchandise too. But reading down the hateful comments on a fresh, bright rainbow logo profile picture on their Facebook and you’ll see just how far the EDM world still has to go. That saddens me to the core.

When discussing celebration of Pride, Farius says, “As an LGBT+ artist in the straight, white, male world of EDM, it’s a fantastic feeling to be a part of a label that publicly shows support for diversity and the community you’re a part of.”

The Festival Voice is proud to share our love and acceptance of the Pride community.
