Arctic Lake- side by side we lie awake EP

The collection finds Arctic Lake at their most liberated. The sleek, 20-second opener kicks right into “Love You Like That,” a club-to-bedroom romp about infatuation at first sight. “Let me drive you mad,” vocalist Emma Foster teases, her soulful voice slinking around Holliman’s punchy snaps and synths. They crank up the heat even more on “Lonely”: “Damn, come in closer baby,” she sings, as Paul Holliman’s instrumental slithers underneath.

Juuku x Farrah- Heart Strings

Juuku and Farrah. Two names that have quickly taken the EDM scene by storm with singles like “Hollow” and “Just Lost.” Together, the two have now teamed up to create their latest emotionally charged original, “heart strings.” Heart Strings showcases each creator’s unique ability to take their listeners on a journey through their undeniable production prowess and intense delivery methods. What makes this original so special is how the two artists were able to find a way to make each of their production styles beautifully clash together throughout the duration of the song. For the first minute, it’s a piece of Gregorian-like humming that slowly begins to blend the drums and piano into a fashion that leads into an unexpected metallic drop. Throughout the song, we’re taken back and forth on this journey between airy dreaminess and chaotic falling as the second drop brings even more beautiful disarray with an RL Grime-esque build up and drop.

Defected

Payfone- Day & Night

Production duo Payfone debut on Defected with ‘Day & Night’, demonstrating their strictly authentic sound that demands all elements of a record to be 100 percent original. Producers with a distinctive sonic aesthetic, an evocative top line, provided by regular collaborator Louis Howard Jones who featured on standout record ‘Paradise’, is offset with a bass-led groove and chunky snare to add a hint of moodiness to the vocal house cut. With just the right amount of 2010s deep house nostalgia to keep ‘Day & Night’ fresh for contemporary listeners, this winning formula has worked well so far for Phil Passera and Jimmy Day. Following releases on influential US imprint Golf Channel and a recent remix on Defected’s sub-label DFTD, ‘Day & Night’ continues to cement their reputation as one of electronic music’s most intriguing acts while exhibiting the trademark Payfone sound.

KIDSØ – Fir

Munich duo and live act KIDSØ play music that you want to hear and feel at the same time. It is what could perhaps best be described as danceable melancholy. Or, as Moritz Graßinger (analogue synths, piano, percussions) and Martin Schneider (drums, e-percussions, video installation), sometimes say with a smile: “electronic music for people who otherwise don’t listen to electronic music that often”. Both somehow hit the mark. And somehow also not, or only insufficiently. Because what the two of them produce as KIDSØ can hardly be squeezed into style pigeonholes or pinned down by euphonious adjectives. It is electronic music at its core, that’s for sure. But not the finger-in-the-air-let-us-rub-against-each-other-in-the-Berghain electronic, but rather what Jon Hopkins produces when he has eaten the right mushrooms. With the difference that KIDSØ record this sound predominantly analogue and organic.
