Alan Walker- Walkerverse Part 2

With just over a month left of 2022, Alan Walker is preparing to take his fans further into the Walkerverse, with the second part of the homonously titled album – out now via Sony Music.

Wasting no time, Walker opens up with standout track ‘Shut Up’. Enlisting the vocals of American Indie singer/songwriter UPSAHL, ‘Shut Up’ fuses Alan’s progressive house sound with UPSAHL’s larger-than-life vocals for an impossibly catchy tune that is nothing short of anthemic. Next up a track that was released to celebrate the beginning of his Tour, ‘Extremes’ ft. Trevor Daniel is an alternative pop meets trap soundscape with a little added grit. Dropped as a surprise release at the beginning of the month, ‘Lovesick’ ft. Sophie Simmons is an intoxicating single featuring a huge orchestral soundscape, that, as the lyrics suggest, has all the features of an electro lullaby.  Closing out the EP with ‘Catch Me If You Can’, Alan creates a playful production, masterfully experimenting with staccato sounds and vocals for a cat and mouse style effect that echo’s the song’s title.

Arkells- Floating Like

Arkells release new single, “Floating Like”, as a surprise addition to their just-released album, Blink Twice.

“‘Floating Like’ is about trying to free yourself of the allure and pull of material things and finding happiness in the simple wonders of life,” says frontman Max Kerman. It was written around a sample we cut up from The Impressions and their song ‘Seven Years.’ We added as many Motown soul tricks to the production with the goal of finding the joy and lightness of those classic tunes. It’s a special song for us, so we wanted to give it its own release and runway. Blink Twice is now complete.”

Bridal Party- Pool

“Pool”, the second single by art-pop quintet Bridal Party from their forthcoming LP Cool Down outlines the joy and challenge of coming out of your shell after periods of isolation. The lyrics of “Pool” were penned by guitarist Joseph Leroux in a demo in early 2019, their mantra-like simplicity inspired by the Porches album of the same name. “I wanted the lyrics to feel potent and understated. They were written with building myself up in mind, in a time when I was looking for a lot of validation from other people. I wanted to remind myself with a song, of the value of choosing yourself and choosing periods of quiet, before coming back into your communities.”

DJ Minx- Walk In The Park (Seth Troxler Remix)

Twenty years ago Jennifer Witcher, better known as DJ Minx, created the minimal house anthem ‘Walk In The Park’. It took her just 45 minutes to produce what Resident Advisor suggested ‘might be the greatest minimal house loop of all time’. The brevity of its production, referenced in its title, belies the track’s seismic impact on electronic music.

Commemorating this milestone anniversary and honoring the legacy of Detroit’s First Lady of Wax, Factory 93 Record has commissioned a series of remixes from artists close to Minx, led by her Detroit brothers in arms Carl Craig and Seth Troxler. The five track package also includes a re-edit from Minx and additional remixes from Soul Clap and Ardalan.

Joshua Lewis- Friction

Boise, ID singer-songwriter and masterclass producer/mixer Joshua Lewis shares his brand LP, Friction, out now via Earth Libraries.

Friction earns its breezy yet earnest tones from yacht rock, the core tenets of the genre offered in spades throughout. Ear-tickling melodies, like the parabolic sway of the vocal on opener “Thinkin’ About You,” guide listeners through crystal-clear production values and a storytelling bent both misty-eyed and microscopic in its detailing. This balancing act of simplicity and shrewd twists in formula stems from Lewis’ love of Steely Dan, masters of this tightrope walk. Said Lewis: “You can hear a song that’s so playful or sweet, and they just throw theory around like nobody’s business: pop sensibility with left turns to keep you guessing and keep your attention. I love that, I wish I heard more of it today.”

Might Delete Later- I’ve Been There

Might Delete Later is on a mission to humanise dance music with her unique concept to create tracks from fans’ voicemails. ‘I’ve Been There’ is the third single from the innovative project launched earlier this year.

“’I’ve Been There’ is a story that began with a voicemail a loved one sent me in February. It was a voicemail of distress. Her name is Holly. Not only is she an independent musician like me, but she tours the world as a backing vocalist for a major British artist.

We had exchanged our thoughts and frustrations about the world we live in. The closures, wars and other crappy things. And sometimes it’s just too much. You start hyperventilating and you don’t know what to do. You go to the bathroom and start crying.

We’ve all experienced that. And this song is a message to everybody out there, “You’re not alone, we’ve all been there” and that’s exactly why I had to make a song out of this voicemail.” – Might Delete Later

Mirrorball- Tinsel for a Tear

Mirrorball unveils the video for “Tinsel for a Tear,” the anticipated new single from their upcoming EP produced by Chris Coady.

“I got together with director Kelly Loudenberg (The Confession Tapes, Exhibit A) and we talked about the inspiration behind the song and how it related to the video. She sent me an essay she had written on LA, and I sent her a poem. We both mentioned Day of the Locust as an inspiration. We both pined for the dusty old days of LA and agreed that some of the character has been painted over both literally and figuratively. The premise: 2 bushy tailed wide-eyed house hunters embark on an open house tour with their eccentric realtor (Grant Falardeau). We shot it guerrilla-style going from open house to open house. We almost got caught filming on several occasions. Kelly was using a camera from the early 2000s and it was big. I believe at one point we used the excuse of saying it was for our grandfather, but I couldn’t stop laughing about that later because it made no sense. It’s no indictment of LA, it is too huge and too beautiful to indict. It is more of an ode, an argument if you will. For, and against, this big city that takes no prisoners.”

The Messenger Birds- Tragic Comedy

Detroit-based experimental/noise rock band The Messenger Birds are excited to announce the release of Tragic Comedy, the duo’s sophomore album out today. Tragic Comedy picks up right where the band’s debut LP, Everything Has To Fall Apart Eventually, left off — a world in isolation, outlandish conspiracy theories on an infinite feedback loop, overwhelming amounts of death and grief and uncertainty, and storylines that sound so hyperbolic and satirical that the only logical conclusion would be that we are all just living in a simulation and none of this is real.

Venessa Michaels- Needed U

LA-based electronic producer Venessa Michaels is evolving in real time. The artist initially made a name for herself through a retro-futuristic sound blending various forms of club music with Y2K-inspired hip-hop and pop – a style that has led to collaborations with J.WorraLil Texas, and Kaleena Zanders; touring slots with NIKIRaury6lackParty Favor, and Krewella; performances at festivals such as Coachella, Splash House, and Camp Flog Gnaw; and the creation of the theme song for the DreamWorks Netflix show KIPO and the Age of Wonderbeasts.

Now, Venessa Michaels releases the single “Needed U,” a track that moves even further from her nostalgia-leaning roots and into pure dancefloor bliss. Incorporating house, breakbeat, and tech-house into a genre-bending club banger, “Needed U” solidifies Michaels as an expert in infectious, party-starting grooves.
