Artist Biography

Ezra Furman is an androgynous folk-punk artist from Chicago. She got her start in 2006 with her backing band the Harpoons while at Tufts University. They self-recorded Beat, Beat, Beat in their dorm rooms that they toured on in the US. This got the attention of producer Brian Deck, who has worked with Modest Mouse and Iron & Wine, who got the band into the studio to record Banging Down the Doors which was released via Minty Fresh in 2007. In 2008, Ezra Furman & the Harpoons did extensive touring while also recording their next album Inside the Human Body. Ezra saw more successes both with her band and as an individual artist, giving her a solid reputation in the indie world by 2014. This led her to creating the soundtrack to season one of the Netflix series Sex Education. In the 2010s, she started focusing more on politically charged music focusing on the state of repression in the world.
