The Wait Is Over: Hangout Announces 2022 Lineup

The much-anticipated wait is over. The lineup for Hangout Music Festival 2022 has finally dropped. There was speculation last week that the lineup would be coming out soon, but no one expected it to drop on Monday. After a three-year hiatus, Gulf Shores finally gets to welcome back thousands of festival-goers to one of the sickest beach festivals in America. Kick-off your summer fun by catching some sunshine, washing your worries away in the ocean, and seeing some amazing artists while getting sand between your toes.

Hangout strives to keep its lineup diverse with a smattering of pop, rock, hip-hop, electronic, and country. This year is no different and honestly has me blown away. The lineup from top to bottom is stacked. There are gems like Oliver Tree, T-Pain, Surfaces, Dayglow, Remi Wolf, Briston Maroney, LP Giobbi, the Band Camino, Lil Yatchy, Flo Milli, Madeon, Moon Taxi, Neal Francis, Slander, The Head and the Heart, Sublime with Rome, Shaquille O’Neal as DJ Diesel, and Joy Oladokun just in the undercard as appetizers. For the main course of supporting acts, there is also a very diverse group including Fall Out Boy, Zedd, Maren Morris, Illenium, Leon Bridges, Jack Harlow, Phoebe Bridgers, and Louis the Child. And oh man, you still have the three headliners that complete the lineup as a mighty tasty dessert featuring Post Malone, Halsey, and Tame Impala. It gives me chills thinking about Kevin Parker melting my brain while sprawled out on the beach.

I haven’t been to Hangout since 2015, and a lot has changed since then. No, I’m not talking about the pandemic here. The festival now has stage-side VIP pools, hammocks that line the beach, disco skating at a full-sized roller rink, and many more activities to be announced. It’s refreshing to see social activities like these be advertised at an event. A year ago, people would look at you as crazy if you mentioned chilling in a pool. Now it’s what people are paying extra for. What a time to be alive!

If you are planning to go to Hangout, there are a few things to consider. You need to book accommodations for the weekend. Gulf Shores and the neighboring city Orange Beach both have a variety of places to stay along the beach including some hotels that literally overlook the festival grounds. There are also condos that are walking distance from Hangout that can sleep upwards of 10 to 15 people. If you are more of an outdoor cat and like to camp, there are some camping options at nearby campgrounds and at Gulf State Park. There is usually a shuttle service that runs between the festival grounds and nearby lodging options if it’s too far of a walk for you after a long day raging on the beach. Regarding covid requirements, I highly suspect that entrance requirements will change for 2022. More than likely, booster shots will be required if you have a vax card, but negative tests should still be accepted. Make sure to read any announcements that Hangout puts out regarding covid information. Additionally, look for any covid rules that nearby hotels and other accommodations are enforcing. You don’t want your weekend on the beach ruined by poor planning.

With Hangout committing to next year, 2022 is looking brighter and brighter. We could all use a weekend on the beach to refill our souls with live music. Hope to see y’all in Gulf Shores!
