Weekend One Was Quite The THING!

Weekend One Was Quite The THING! Guest Author: Jordan Barsness

Weekend one of THING was spectacular. The clouds gave way to some lovely sunshine as Jessica Pratt enchanted the afternoon crowd with her stripped-down set. ‘By Hook or by Crook’ was a highlight of her performance. An almost Bossa Nova sound with lyrics that cut through the relaxed vibe like a small river slowly cutting through the beach to reach the ocean.

As the day progressed, Seattle’s own Deep Sea Diver took the stage, featuring many songs from their most recent Sub Pop release, Billboard Heart. Bring your “shovel’’ so you can dig deep into the DSD catalog. Their set blends beautiful melodic songs into heavy tones to get your feet stomping. DSD is on the rise. The excitement of old fans introducing new fans to DSD could be heard from the beer line to the smoking section. Jessica Dobson is a world-class songwriter. Make sure to catch them live when they come back after a brief European tour.

After the ladies warmed our hearts and souls along with the sunshine, Orville Peck took the stage in his sleeveless Canadian tuxedo, mask, and cowboy hat. Since his first tour back in 2019, off the Sub Pop release Pony. Orville has released multiple albums and collaborated with some of the world’s biggest stars since then. Although Shania Twain and Kylie Minogue could not make the trip, Peck delivers an energetic set. He electrified his acoustic ballad “No Glory in the West,” and we all became “Queens of the Rodeo” as rainbows were put into everyone’s hearts.

To finish off the night, Father John Misty took the stage and jumped right into one of his new songs ‘Time Makes Fools of Us All”. FJM exudes confidence throughout his set. His mannerisms are so expressive that he would make a great Broadway stage actor. First-time FJM attendees were blown away by what they were witnessing. When a song like ‘Ideal Husband” plays, the crowd’s energy shifts to a point where you feel like you’re at a punk rock show.

THING delivers another great day of music. Some attendees find their shade spots, die hard fans brave the heat to keep their place on the rail, but everyone is enjoying themselves, and Remlinger Farms provides the space to do so.

See ya next weekend at the Farm. Here are all the photos! More will be added as we have more shows.
