Movement Detroit Returns
It’s about that time again for us to start gearing up for festival season! Movement Detroit returns and is coming in hot with its 2026 edition. Across 6 unique stages over 3 days, Detroit is the place to be to feel the pulse of the electronic music scene during Memorial Day weekend. Celebrating 20 years under Paxahau’s guidance, Movement Music Festival is still the one to watch. With thousands flocking from all corners of the globe to Detroit’s legendary Hart Plaza. You won’t want to miss this one.

Last Years Recap
Last year, as a first timer to not only Movement, but Detroit as a whole, I didn’t know what to expect. My nervousness dissipated as I met a beautiful community. One that stood firmly in its roots and created a foundation for creativity. I went in not entirely knowing what to expect and walked out in awe. Not only had Movement captured my heart, but it quickly became my favorite festival by a metric landslide.
I found myself shoulder to shoulder with parents who had once attended years ago. Their kids are not far away, cutting shapes on the dance floor. Everyone, from all walks of life are welcome here. That’s a feeling that is hard to put into words. The connection is almost palpable. Movement is so much more than a festival of incredible talent. It’s a dearly loved and anticipated event that is so unapologetically Detroit. Never forgetting to hold space for the pioneers in techno who have gone before, carving out the path, the history is deep-rooted, and artists are given their rightful flowers.
How The Lineup Stacks Up
Chatter surrounding this year’s lineup is a mix of pure excitement and opportunity to see a variety of talents again or for the first time. With unique b2bs such as Ellen Allien b2b DJ Stingray, DJ Heartstring b2b X Club., and Zack Fox b2b Jyoty, amongst others, there is no shortage of memorable match-ups.
Of course, huge names like Carl Cox, Sara Landry, Mochakk, and Dom Dolla are highly anticipated acts for their unique global draws, each commanding crowds in their own way.
I, for one, am thrilled to experience some acts that have been on my list but haven’t had the chance to see yet. Sibling duo Tinzo and Jojo are making their mark in the scene, promoting pure connection on the dance floor. KI/KI with her Detroit debut, bringing high-energy sets known for taking ravers on a journey.
It wouldn’t be Movement without the Saundersons. Detroit techno royalty always has a home here. With Kevin Saunderson delivering not only a solo set but one as E-Dancer, his collaborative project with Dantiez. His talent carries over to The Saunderson Brothers, his two eldest sons. Other Detroit natives, such as Carl Craig, DJ Godfather, and Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale, and more, stay true to their roots all weekend. Check out the full lineup below!

What To Expect
Spanning across 6 unique stages, each highlighting something a little different, you really can’t go wrong. From the Main stage to the literal Underground, Movement delivers a unique structure to their stages. From hyper-local artists showcasing their Detroit style to household names. I encourage festival goers to try something new on for size. By allowing yourself time to explore, you could stumble upon tomorrow’s next big thing. Speaking of tomorrow, this is for those who don’t like to call it a night. Keep an eye out for the afterparties where Detroit’s expansive warehouses and holes in the wall come to life when the sun goes down. The afterparties are where artists can truly let loose and show you exactly what got them where they are. I can’t wait to see the unique B2B’s and spaces where an unexpected dance floor will appear.
The lineup this year is absolutely monstrous and perfectly encapsulates the aura of Movement Detroit. My advice? Do your research and start your crate digging now to find your can-not-miss artists.
