Artist Biography

Turnstile is the Baltimore-born hardcore collective whose explosive evolution from underground DIY basements to international festival stages has redefined the sonic possibilities of modern hardcore punk through a fearless fusion of groove, melody, and experimental texture. Formed in 2010 by vocalist Brendan Yates alongside bassist Franz Lyons, drummer Daniel Fang, and a rotating lineup of guitarists including Pat McCrory and Meg Mills, the band emerged from Baltimore’s tight-knit hardcore scene with early EPs Pressure to Succeed (2011) and Step 2 Rhythm (2013) before introducing their full-length debut Nonstop Feeling in 2015. Their sound—initially rooted in classic American hardcore—rapidly expanded across subsequent releases such as Time & Space (2018) and the widely acclaimed Glow On (2021), the latter earning multiple Grammy nominations and broad critical praise for its genre-blurring architecture that layers melodic hooks, shimmering guitars, and dance-influenced rhythms atop the band’s relentless punk foundation. In 2026 the band finally took home the gold with two Grammy Awards including one for Best Rock Album marking the first time a hardcore band won in this category. Through a combination of tightly engineered rhythm sections, kinetic guitar interplay, and Yates’ increasingly melodic vocal approach, Turnstile has transformed hardcore’s traditionally rigid framework into a vibrant, expansive form—one that translates into electrifying live performances and positions the band as one of the defining forces in contemporary rock’s ongoing reinvention.
