Artist Biography

Sub Focus (born Nick Douwma) is the English drum & bass producer and DJ whose meticulous sonic engineering and genre‑blending vision have helped define the sound of modern bass music for more than two decades. Originally a self‑taught electronic producer who began making music on a computer as a teenager, Douwma broke into the scene when a demo in 2003 landed in the hands of RAM Records’ Andy C and led to a signing that would launch a prolific career rooted in drum & bass, jungle, and high‑velocity dance music. Across landmark albums like his self‑titled 2009 debut, the anthem‑laden Torus (2013), the collaborative Portals with Wilkinson (2020), and 2023’s Evolve — which won Best Album at the Drum & Bass Arena Awards — Sub Focus has fused high‑octane rhythms, lush melodic design, and futuristic production techniques to create tracks that resonate in clubs and festival fields alike. With precision‑engineered drops, rich atmospheric layering, and electrifying live shows on stages from Glastonbury to Tomorrowland, Sub Focus remains a pivotal figure in electronic music, constantly pushing the boundaries of drum & bass while honoring its underground roots.
