Artist Biography
Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue is the New Orleans–bred powerhouse ensemble led by Troy Andrews, whose lifelong immersion in the musical traditions of the Tremé neighborhood has evolved into a genre-blurring performance style that fuses jazz virtuosity with funk, rock, and hip-hop energy. A prodigy who first appeared at Jazz Fest at age four and led his own brass band by six, Andrews developed a dual command of trombone and trumpet that anchors the band’s tightly constructed yet explosively dynamic sound, often described as “SupaFunkRock.” Backed by Orleans Avenue—a multi-piece unit of guitar, rhythm section, and horn players—the project translates New Orleans brass band tradition into a modern touring framework, layering syncopated grooves, punchy horn arrangements, and improvisational solos into compositions that balance technical precision with high-energy spontaneity. Across charting albums, global festival appearances, and collaborations ranging from rock icons to pop and hip-hop artists, Trombone Shorty’s work reflects a deliberate synthesis of heritage and innovation, transforming deeply rooted cultural forms into expansive live experiences that carry the rhythmic DNA of New Orleans onto contemporary festival stages.
