Be a Pro at Beyond Wonderland Chi

Beyond Wonderland 2026 is this weekend, and oh my goodness!!! I’m so psyched. I’ve been waiting for this festival all year, as I was unable to attend last year, and it is one of my favorites. So to recap the event, it takes place at Northerly Island in Chicago. I’ve got some tips and tricks to help you make the most of the weekend’s festivities.

Parking is extremely limited, and it is recommended that you take public transit. I’m not an expert on the Chicago CTA, as I live 3 hours away, but your best bet is to use Google Maps to route your trip. You will have to walk quite a bit, but don’t despair, Museum Campus is BEAUTIFUL. There are restrooms along the way and lots of vendors. Pro tip- the blue and red lines are 24 hours. The others close at 1.

Prepare for the weather. If you’re not from Chicago or don’t visit often, you wouldn’t know how COLD the lake gets. The wind on the lake is SO refreshing, but it can get chilly at night. I know we’re a few days out, but it’s currently saying Saturday is a high of 82 and a low of 66. Sunday is 77 and 62. I know this can change in the next few days, but I would BRING layers. I plan to. That wind is COLD!

Speaking of the weather, the forecast has rain on Friday and Saturday. While the festival is only on Saturday and Sunday, I have to speak of past experience. It was a mud-pit. The festival did its best to mitigate the issues. This was two years ago, so hopefully they’ve figured out a solution to this. I don’t want to wear my boots because then I’m stuck in them… but I am wearing shoes I don’t care about. And two years ago, I fell in the mud. Not exaggerating, completely covered in mud. But hey, it’s not a festival if it doesn’t rain at least once, am I right?

If you have VIP, take advantage of it. The VIP lounge two years ago had kandi making stations, free hairties that were cute, ponchos, and so much more. I plan to spend some time there having fun and making friends!

Be aware of the bag restrictions. This is a common thing at festivals nowadays, so you might as well invest! I’m going to have a clear fanny pack and my Camelbak. Just take a look at their rules- located here– so you know what is allowed and what isn’t!

This event is cashless- so be prepared!

While this is a basic concept, don’t OVER-schedule your event. Pick a few “must-see” artists and let your time flow. I try to make all the sets I want, but I don’t always make everything, and the first few events, I would be disappointed! Now, I hope for it, and oh well if it doesn’t work out. It is a bummer, but I don’t let it ruin my weekend. Plus, you can find new artists! Some of my favorite artists were discovered through random festival encounters.

Finally, Insomniac puts more time than almost any other company out there into the little things. I can’t speak for everything, but I’ve been to events with hidden scavenger hunts, secret sets, performers, immersive art, and so much more. They pay so much attention to detail that you need to spend some time exploring the grounds to see what is out there. You never know what you will find.

I’ll see you at Beyond Wonderland Chicago!
