Artist Biography

Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors is the Americana outfit led by Drew Holcomb that came about in the late 2000s. The group includes his wife, fellow singer/songwriter Ellie Holcomb. Born in Memphis in 1982, Drew grew up listening to his father’s collection of singer/songwriter albums of the ’70s including music from Bob Dylan and James Taylor. His interest in music further grew but before pursuing a career in music he attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and finished a master’s degree in divinity at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. His dissertation was titled “Springsteen and American Redemptive Imagination.” Drew returned to Tennessee and settled in Nashville where in 2003 he released his first EP Lost and Found. Two years later he released his first full-length Washed in Blue. In 2006, he married Ellie Bannister, who was a musician he met while in Knoxville, took the name Holcomb and performed with Drew. The rest of the band came into the picture over the next year, and Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors was born in 2007 with their seasonal release A Neighborly Christmas. After a few more releases, the band’s 2011 album Chasing Someday peaked at 183 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart and at eight on the Folk Chart. In 2014, the band founded the Moon River festival in Chattanooga which has kept strong until the present day. In 2015, Ellie left the group to focus on her solo career but still comes back to sit in on sets with the original band. I can’t imagine her missing out on playing with her husband at Bonnaroo.
