As a pastor’s daughter, she’s a proud believer with deep gospel roots and powerful, diverse influences — Sam Cooke, Lauryn Hill, Taylor Swift, DMX and bands like NEEDTOBREATHE are a few that have impacted her approach to music and resistance to the norm.

Leading the collection is “Black Women,” a song that was originally written as a poem that LoRen deemed “too heavy” to share. She began writing it toward the end of her 2020 pregnancy, a time where LoRen experienced several instances where racial bias revealed itself within her doctor appointments. The more she educated herself on the statistics around Black maternal health, the more unsettled she became.

shallow pools- Now Or Never

Equal Vision Records and Boston-based indie-pop quartet shallow pools are excited to present “Now Or Never,” the band’s second song for the label and an anthem that is about that fleeting “will we or won’t we” moment between two people who are interested in each other but don’t know if it will work out. Being vulnerable is hard, but life is short and the future is uncertain, so you should tell people how you feel.

Slow Fiction- Slow Fiction

Brooklyn’s Slow Fiction have gradually gained acclaim and local notoriety after releasing a slew of stellar singles in 2022 (including as double A-side, “The Cut” / “Niagara,” and  standalone tracks, “Nameless Harm” and “International Cherry“). In turn, the band has been found on bills all over the city, performing alongside acts such as Sports TeamGirl Skin (with whom they toured last spring), Native SunThe Wants (mem. Bodega), Thus LoveDead Tooth, and more, in addition to making an appearance at last year’s New Colossus Festival (view the Paste live session).

Slow Fiction is finally sharing a full-length project, their debut self-titled EPSlow Fiction, out now via all DSPs. Jonathan Schenke (Parquet Courts, The Drums, Snail Mail, Mannequin Pussy) mixed and mastered the project, helping the band carve out a sound that calls upon the garage rock greatness of the early aughts.

Tap Newo- Fake Techno

I am excited to present my new album Fake Techno – which I’ll be releasing independently on February 18th. This album is a response to what I feel is a creatively stagnating techno scene where risks are rarely taken and ‘going hard’ is somehow seen as more genuine. My goal is to show people that techno can be so much more than what is currently trending, and to provoke the question – “what is real techno?”

Ten City- Love Is Love

Proof that disco evolved rather than died can be heard throughout the discography of house group Ten City. Set apart most obviously by singer Byron Stingily, a powerhouse falsetto between and distinct from inspirations such as Philip Bailey and Sylvester, the Chicago group’s recordings epitomize deep house with a basis in gospel and soul, and messages of love and positivity. Teamed with dance music pioneer Marshall Jefferson, Ten City emerged in the late ’80s with two of their biggest hits, “Right Back to You” and “That’s the Way Love Is,” the latter of which topped Billboard’s dance/club chart and cracked the Top Ten of the U.K. pop chart.

Before their mid-’90s disbandment, the group in their original trio incarnation issued four albums ranging from Foundation (1989) through That Was Then, This Is Now (1994), and charted with seven additional singles. Nearly three decades after the fourth album, Ten City returned with Judgment (2021), made by Stingily and Jefferson, which in 2022 earned a GRAMMY nomination for “Best Electronic/Dance Album.”   Due to popular demand and the feel-good vibe from the recording of Judgement, Ten City are back in 2023 with Love Is Love due out February 17 on Helix Records.

Tisoki is unveiling his new ‘SONGS TO PLAY LOUD’ EP on Bassrush Records.

UK-born, LA-based producer Tisoki has spent the last few months showcasing the harder edge of his dynamic bass sound, which has seen him bounce around trap, dubstep, bass house, drum & bass and more. The three singles are being bundled together on his new 5-track ‘SONGS TO PLAY LOUD’ EP. On the featured cut “Miles Away,” he teams up with the bass music shapeshifter from Sydney Leotrix on a next-level dubstep collab marked by glitchy synth leads, breakbeat builds, metallic stabs, chaotic vocal chops, and a retro melody tying it all together.

Winter- good feat. SASAMI

Winter has teamed up with Water From Your Eyes for a remix of her song “good” feat. SASAMI, a highlight off last years’ album What Kind of Blue Are You?. The reimagined track breaks down the components of the original, foregrounding SASAMI’s harmonies, and amplifying the song’s hypnotic qualities into a heady, motorik ride. On the remix, Samira Winter says “a movie flashes in my mind every time I listen to this remix. The track maintains it’s hypnotic spell only now with a twist of electrifying chaos that only Water From Your Eyes can bring.” Listen to last years’ singles “atonement” feat. Hatchie, “good” feat. SASAMI, and “sunday”, and listen to good” feat. SASAMI (Water From Your Eyes Remix) HERE. Additionally, Winter will be touring the US with Tanukichan this Spring, with appearances in Los Angeles, New York, and at Treefort Fest.

Vindata- No Service

Electronic R&B producer Vindata returns to Monstercat today, joining forces with Bay Area rapper Ozer for their new collaboration, “No Service.” Fusing garage and Amapiano sounds rolled into a catchy rap-electronic hybrid, the record sets the tone for Branden Ratcliff’s new creative direction as he carries on the Vindata project solo. With Ozer’s dexterous rap verses leading the groovy tempo, the lyrics reflect an escape to a place with no reception while focusing on what’s ahead. Unearthing a synergistic blend from the duo’s unique stylings, “No Service” also ushers in a celebration of Black History Month, both artists using their time working together to support one another while remembering where they came from.
