Bedroom- Better Friends

Thread, Noah Kittinger’s fourth LP under the Bedroom moniker, is the album the singer/songwriter & producer has strived to release throughout his career. It’s a stunning portrait of self-exploration, as Kittinger aims to find his place in life after a tumultuous period both in his personal life and artistry.

What emerged from that initial trip was “Better Friends,” the lead single for Thread. On the song, Kittinger gets brutally honest, admitting to himself that he wishes he had friends to look out for him instead of encouraging toxic coping mechanisms during times of struggle. Melodically, the track stands out for its introduction of pedal steel into Kittinger’s music, injecting southern-tinged flair to the record.

Ghost Love- Iconic

According to Ghost Love vocalist David Rancourt “Iconic is meditation and reflection on how we remember people after they are gone. Lyrically it was inspired by the dreams I was having of my mother after she passed away and the conversations we were having where we seemed to communicate without using words. She felt very close and far at the same time and it was an emotion I had never felt before. It was a very cathartic and emotional release for me to write this song, probably the most intense of any song I have ever written. It’s a song where I wanted to tell her that she would never be forgotten but it’s also a bit of a reflection on the myths we construct for ourselves after someone passes. I think we tend to create these myths and storytelling about people as a part of the healing process and I think they are an important way to deal with grief.”

NITTI & Valentino Khan- Your Body

Joining forces again since their 2021 hit collab “Your Body,” Grammy and Billboard Award-winning producer NITTI and LA hit producer Valentino Khan return with the bass-heavy monster “What You Got.” It’s a seductive piece of dance music, kickstarted with strong, punchy beats and alluring vocal samples, before dropping into a powerful groove, underscored by a raw, vibrating bass line. Right there, the floor is bound to go mad, as the track’s chords keep thumping away, while the vocals get tangled up in some twisted sound effects. Mesmerizing, and highly flammable stuff, unleashed by two producers who know their way around rowdy club music.

PEEKABOO- When I’m Gone

PEEKABOO unleashes the official remix pack for his recent single “When I’m Gone” on NIGHTMODE.

On the hindlegs of the lead remix from Ganja White Night, Detroit-based producer PEEKABOO returns to NIGHTMODE with the official ‘When I’m Gone’ (Remixes) pack for his futuristic, melancholic bass single alongside emerging rapper XAELO. In addition to a slamming techno take crafted by UK artist Curbi, the bass music behemoth NGHTMRE graces the affair with the focus track. His rendition amplifies the heartache of the original with wistful piano keys, eventually lifting the whole piece up with triumphant horn riffs, snappy drum sections, glitchy flourishes, sustained chord accents, and a breathy flute melody counteracting the original motif.

Semaphore- Stay Together For The Kids

Next week, Semaphore will release the new album I Need A Reason To Stay on March 24th. In anticipation they share “Stay2gether”, their post-shoegaze cover of Blink 182’s “Stay Together For The Kids”. Originally starting off as an experiment with new gear and music software, lead singer and guitarist Siddhu Anandalingam decided to fully flesh out this cover of one of his favorite Blink 182 songs, by adding a drum machine and dropping the tuning of the song to make it even moodier. For the track he took inspiration from Brakence, My Bloody Valentine, Juice WRLD and of course, Blink 182. The song is augmented with a slowed down approach that heightens the traumatic nature of the lyrics, the chorus is treated to a wall of distorted guitars while vocals from lead singer Siddhu Anandalingam float in the ether above it all, seemingly dissociating from reality as a form of coping mechanism. Semaphore will celebrate the release of I Need A Reason To Stay with a show at Golden Sounds in Brooklyn on March 26th and have announced select spring tour dates to follow.

Single Mothers- Head Shrunk & Sad Dumb Game

Leading the collection are the tracks “Head Shrunk,” where Thomson ponders the futility of going through the motions of therapy sessions, and “Sad Dumb Game,” where he examines the disconnect between online activist posturing and meaningful social change. ”I wrote ‘Sad Dumb Game’ as a reflection of our intentions versus our actions,” he says. “We’re in a weird spot where two identities exist: your online persona and the real you. Lots of people get to see the online you, the one that’s carefully crafted, massaged, edited. A small fraction get to see the real person that exists outside the algorithms and edited rewrites. ‘Sad Dumb Game’ is about that performative dance, that editing process. It’s about the you that only exists on a screen somewhere versus who we really are.”
