May 29th Weekly Roundup Feature

We’re back with our weekly roundup feature! It’s May 29th and I was just checking out Summer Camp Music Fest this past weekend. Still recovering!

3L3D3P- idontlisten

3L3D3P (pronounced EL-DEE-PEE) is the cryptic alias under which Los Angeles native Marina Thompson creates genre bending electronic music that spans punk, techno, and experimental pop. Today, she’s released a new video for “idontlisten,” which finds Thompson playing the role of a convenience store clerk, performing her rave-ready anthem while backlit by cyberpunk visuals. She explains the video “really brought me back to the days of being a kid and I’d spend hours making music videos on my own. I would just learn and experiment as I went along and just flow. I really wanted the essence of 3L3D3P to ring true through the visualization of this video, so I directed, styled, and handled post production of the video myself. It took a lot of time, it made me a little bit more insane, but it also felt natural. The cuts, the style, the feel of the video are fueled with my blood.” Check out the video premiere at FLOOD Magazine.

Andy Hall & Billy Strings- Muscle Car

Andy Hall of The Infamous Stringdusters has collaborated with GRAMMY-award-winning guitarist Billy Strings in his newest single “Muscle Car,” off of his forthcoming album Squareneck Soul out via Americana Vibes on June 23rd. With an uptempo, high-powered display of Hall’s virtuosity on dobro and Strings’ electrifying picking guitar performance, the new single is accompanied by an animated, video game-themed music video depicting a pixelated Hall in a red Ford Mustang that is powered by a magic dobro. On a quest to make it to a performance, the journey takes him through the mountains of Colorado, the Grand Canyon, and outer space before the apex of the chase finds him soaring above the California Aqueduct in Ventura County successfully completing the expedition to the show.

Bart Skils & Weska- Something More

A transatlantic connection that’s so far birthed the excellent ‘Polarize’ and ‘Shades of Summer’ EPs, plus a remix of the Sven Väth classic ‘Spectrum’ under his Metal Master alias on Cocoon, Bart Skils and Weska are gradually developing into one of techno’s most exciting partnerships.

Something More’ continues their on-point production flow. The title track is destined for festival stages, mixing up sharp drumlines, celestial pads and a soaring male vocal that balances the wistful and euphoric on a knife’s edge. Meanwhile, ‘Palm Strings’ is a sleek beast, as rolling percussive loops rub shoulders with an atmospheric melody line, before a powerful bass riff takes the energy up to eleven.

Bathe Alone-In Your Wake

Atlanta dream pop artist Bathe Alone is excited to announce they will release their 2022 EP, Fall With The Lights Down (Louise), as a double EP with the addition of Fall With The Lights Down (Velma) on August 4th.  The compilation is a sonic expression of nostalgic longing, with each part dedicated to one of multi-instrumentalist Bailey Crone’s great-grandmothers whom she never met and are pictured on the cover of their namesake EP. She explains, “I was browsing my dad’s Facebook, and he had uploaded all of these family photos. She just looks super unhappy and out of context being on a boat. Then there’s another photo of the other great-grandma in a yellow vest with a picnic basket next to her. I thought these photos were so weird and powerful.” While Fall With The Lights Down’s imagery is primarily centered around Crone’s great-grandmothers, the project also considers the many ways we experience loss (which extends to the absence of a pet) and the good memories one makes while young that one will look back on forever. The double EP will be available as one album on vinyl through The Record Machine. Now, they release In Your Wake.
