Artist Biography

Foo Fighters is one of the biggest alt-rock bands to come out of the 1990s. The key behind the band is Dave Grohl who played with various hardcore punk bands in his teens. In the late ’80s, he joined the D.C. area hardcore band Scream as their drummer. When Scream was breaking up, Dave started recording his own material that appeared on Scream’s final album Fumble. Then he joined this little band called Nirvana in 1990 and relocated to Seattle. After Nevermind was recorded, Dave moved back to D.C. to record a handful of tracks that appeared on Pocketwatch, a cassette released by Secret Machines. Until the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994, Dave kept recording solo material, and following the death spent a single week recording the Foo Fighters’ debut album. He played all of the instruments on the album. He made 100 copies of the tape, giving it out to friends and associates.  After a bidding war for the rights to release the album, Capitol Records became victorious as the label to release it. Dave formed a band to back the album and called it the Foo Fighters after a World War II era secret force that allegedly researched UFOs. The self-titled debut album came in 1995 and was certified platinum the following year. The rest is history as Foo Fighters have become a staple in the world of rock and roll, topping charts over the decades. As many know, on March 25th, 2022, drummer Taylor Hawkins passed while the band was on tour in Colombia. He was 50 years old. The band has since started touring again in 2023 with Bonnaroo being a highly anticipated set as Foo Fighters’ were slated for the canceled Bonnaroo 2021.
