Movement Is The MOVE For Next Weekend

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – Techno Christmas is upon us! As a Detroit native, I am extremely biased about Movement being the best festival in the United States. There are not many festivals like it. It’s been going strong for decades, originally as a free event to celebrate the birthplace of Techno, and has now evolved into an international techno destination. Everyone knows Detroit does it best. The pure energy of the city, the waterfront green space with views of Canada, and the nonstop techno paired with the art and creativity showcased across the city make this festival unmatched.

The festival runs Memorial Day weekend in Detroit, MI from Saturday, May 25th through Monday, May 27th from 2 pm to about midnight. Although the 3-Day VIP & Saturday tickets are sold out, there’s still plenty of time to buy those General Admission weekend or day passes. Or VIP Sunday & Monday passes! There are special amenities for VIP including air-conditioned bathrooms and VIP Secret Sets, so it’s definitely worth the extra money. Ticket prices will go up in price closer to the event, so don’t sleep on it! Tickets can be found here: https://movementfestival.com/

The 2024 Movement lineup boasts over 115 acts, including Fatboy Slim, Richie Hawtin, Solomun, Kevin Saunderson b2b Idris Elba, Goldie (live band & dj set), Honey Dijon, Chris Lake, Dom Dolla, James Blake (dj set), Gorgon City, Ludacris, Channel Tres (dj set), The Blessed Madonna, Tee Grizzley, Masters at Work, DJ Minx, LP Giobbi, Floorplan & sooo many more. This lineup is seriously so stacked, whether you’re into hard techno, tech-house, or even rap, here’s something for you. I’m especially looking forward to that Ludacris set, and Barclay Crenshaw (if you’re familiar with Claude Vonstroke, you might already know that Barclay Crenshaw is the name he performs under now).

Don’t forget to download the Movement Festival app on your phone to learn about artists you may not have heard of, get your schedule sorted out, and keep informed about possible updates. If you’ve already checked the lineup, you may want to know about schedule changes such as Huey Mnemonic and Francois Dillinger timeslots swapped on Day 1 with slight changes to their set time. This is the first schedule change we’ve seen, and there may be more, so make sure to check socials and the app to stay current. The Movement team is really great at updating their Instagram with new information, so that’s a great place to check.

The weather in Michigan is always changing, so be sure to check the weather app and come prepared. You ARE allowed to leave the venue and come back, but who wants to run to their car mid-set for a jacket? Nobody! If things get a little too hot during the day, the waterfront stage is a great space to cool down with the breeze from the river, and the underground is also a lot cooler and shady. If you get too cold? Well, get in the crowd! I promise you won’t be cold after dancing with all your friends (and the kind strangers) around you.

The overall energy of the city, from both residents and travelers, is unreal and unbeatable. Whatever you call it, Movement, DEMF, Tech Fest, or Techno Christmas, if you’ve been, you know it’s the best weekend of the year in Detroit. And if you haven’t been, I highly encourage you to go. And if you haven’t already, definitely check out the pre- and after- parties going on across the city all weekend. There’s something for everybody and we are so excited to be there!
