Artist Biography
The Chats are the Australian punk trio born on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, whose unapologetic brand of razor‑edged “shed rock” fuses classic punk urgency, pub‑rock grit, and wry cultural observation into a sound that feels both ferociously immediate and distinctly homegrown. Formed in 2016 when bassist/vocalist Eamon Sandwith, drummer Matt Boggis, and guitarist Josh Hardy were still teenagers making music in a friend’s shed, the band exploded from local DIY roots with the viral hit “Smoko,” a blistering, three‑chord anthem that paired deadpan humor with snarling riffs and millions of internet plays — a breakout that led to major tours and a loyal global following. With critically embraced studio albums like High Risk Behaviour and Get Fucked showcasing blistering tempos, stripped‑down songcraft, and lyrics steeped in everyday absurdity, The Chats have carved out a singular place in modern punk by amplifying the raw, working‑class spirit of their influences while delivering high‑velocity performances that feel like a shot of adrenaline to the system.
