Artist Biography
Mariah the Scientist (born Mariah Amani Buckles in Atlanta in 1997) is an American R&B singer-songwriter whose evolution from a biology student at St. John’s University into a leader of modern alternative R&B blends intimate lyricism with meticulously engineered sonic landscapes that balance moody, minimal production and evocative vocal delivery. After dropping out of college to pursue music, she gained early traction with her 2018 EP To Die For on SoundCloud and soon signed to RCA/One Umbrella, releasing her debut album Master (2019) and follow-ups Ry Ry World (2021) and To Be Eaten Alive (2023), the latter marking her entry on the Billboard 200; she continued expanding her catalog with Hearts Sold Separately (2025), featuring hits like “Burning Blue” and “Is It a Crime,” both of which entered the Billboard Hot 100 and solidified her R&B credentials. Her stage name — a nod to her early academic passion — reflects her analytical lyricism, and her music is shaped by influences from OutKast and Frank Ocean to Prince and Michael Jackson, creating a sound that feels both emotionally candid and technically refined while her live performances bring atmospheric arrangements and clear vocals into intimate, festival-ready settings.
