Artist Biography
Mt. Joy is the Philadelphia-rooted indie rock collective whose rise from a chance reunion between high-school friends into a globally touring festival staple reflects the enduring power of melodic storytelling and organic band chemistry. Formed in 2016 when vocalist-guitarist Matt Quinn and guitarist Sam Cooper reconnected in Los Angeles, the project quickly expanded into a five-piece with bassist Michael Byrnes, drummer Sotiris Eliopoulos, and keyboardist Jackie Miclau, forging a sound that blends indie rock structure with folk warmth, Americana textures, and expansive guitar-driven arrangements. Their breakout single “Astrovan” gained viral momentum on streaming platforms and set the stage for a steady progression of releases beginning with their self-titled debut Mt. Joy (2018), followed by Rearrange Us (2020), Orange Blood (2022), and the 2025 album Hope We Have Fun, each refining a songwriting approach built on layered instrumentation, reflective lyricism, and dynamic rhythmic interplay. Across relentless touring and festival appearances, the band has developed a reputation for translating studio-crafted indie compositions into immersive live performances where soaring guitar lines, piano textures, and Quinn’s conversational vocal delivery create a technically balanced blend of intimacy and arena-ready scale.
