Artist Biography

Jacob Collier is a Grammy-winning vocalist and multi-instrumentalist who blends jazz, R&B, and pop with electronic production. He was born in 1994 to a family of North London musicians but didn’t start sharing videos of his home music room until 2011 when he was 17. The videos were in a grid format with Jacob performing each part himself including eight-part vocal harmonies. He played some originals including “Serendipity” but also did covers including George Gershwin and Stevie Wonder. After Jacob graduated high school, he went to the Royal Academy of Music where he majored in jazz piano performance. While attending, Quincy Jones saw potential in Jacob and signed him to his management company. Additionally, Jacob fine-tuned his solo multimedia live performances by collaborating with MIT’s Media Lab. He debuted this new technology at the 2015 Montreux Jazz Festival where he opened for Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea. The following year he released his debut album In My Room which made it to number three on Billboard’s Jazz Albums chart. In 2017, Jacob won two Grammy Awards for his versions of “You and I” by Stevie Wonder and The Flinstones theme song. The next year he released his second album as the first of a four-part project called Djesse, Vol. 1 which featured the Metropole Orkest conducted by Jules Buckley and collaborations with an array of musicians including Suzie Collier, Jacob’s mother. In 2019, Djesse, Vol. 2 was released that focused on acoustic instrumentals and had an array of impressive collaborators. Both albums earned Grammy Awards. In 2020, Jacob released Djesse, Vol. 3 which featured T-Pain, Ty Dolla $ign, and others.
