Artist Biography
Franz Ferdinand is an indie rock outfit based out of Glasgow that found their fame running the scene in the early 2000s. Prior to forming Franz Ferdinand, singer/guitarist frontman Alex Kapranos played in various other bands where he met and gathered the members of Franz Ferdinand, the first two being bassist Bob Hardy and pianist Nick McCarthy who ended up playing drums despite never having played the drums before. Paul Thomson joined in on guitar but eventually swapped with Nick. The band used an abandoned warehouse as a practice space that they dubbed the Chateau where they threw rave-like events mixing music and art. From there, the band took off, topping the charts in the U.K. and then in the U.S.. They got nominated for five Grammy Awards in between 2005 and 2006 and won Best British Group and Best British Rock Act at the Brit Awards in 2005. Franz Ferdinand has kept the momentum going for two decades.
