Artist Biography
flipturn is the Fernandina Beach, Florida–born indie rock quintet whose cinematic blend of jangly guitars, atmospheric synth layers, and hook‑driven songcraft has carried them from garage jam sessions to national festival stages with remarkable velocity. Formed in 2015 by high school friends Dillon Basse (vocals/guitar), Tristan Duncan (guitar), and Madeline Jarman (bass) — later joined by Mitch Fountain (synth/guitar) and Devon VonBalson (drums) — the band built its early catalog with EPs like Citrona and swiftly cultivated a devoted grassroots following with introspective lyrics, buoyant rhythms, and a sonic palette that balances surf‑tinged brightness with emotional nuance. Their debut album Shadowglow (2022) on Dualtone Records marked a pivotal evolution in their technical approach, incorporating layered arrangements and dynamic production that propelled them into headlining tours and major festival appearances; their 2025 follow‑up Burnout Days further expands the band’s craft with meticulous sound design, textured soundscapes, and a reflective narrative depth that captures life’s tensions between endurance and release, positioning flipturn as a distinctive voice in modern indie rock’s ever‑evolving sonic landscape.
