Woodstock 2019

The Return of Woodstock

For months we’ve been teased with a 50th year Woodstock anniversary concert and for all of us hardcore festival lovers, we couldn’t be more excited!

Background of Woodstock

If you’re not super familiar with Woodstock, here’s a quick rundown for ya. Started by four men, John Roberts, Joel Rosenman, Artie Kornfeld and Michael Lane who were looking for an investment opportunity, This 3-day festival took place on a dairy farm in Bethel, New York August 15th-17th, 1969. As we all know, first-year festivals can come with a lot of hiccups and this was definitely the case for Woodstock. The festival organizers initially planned to host Woodstock in (or near) the Village of Woodstock, NY. However, city officials in both Woodstock and Wallkill NY denied their requests. It wasn’t until one month before the festival that a venue was secured.

Coined as 3 days of peace and music, this event gave people an escape from the controversy of the Vietnam war. Many described the event as having an overwhelming sense of peace and love. About half a million people attended Woodstock. But what’s more incredible than that? It was free for everyone! By the time Friday night rolled around, thousands of people were already lined up waiting for the gates to open. Faced with difficulties of not having proper fences, gates, or security, festival organizers decided to let everyone in for free. And what’s even more incredible than that? Even with a lack of security and other safety measurements, there were no reported incidents of violence. Not even the muddy conditions of the farm, the lack of bathrooms or food took away from the happiness of those in attendance. Can you see why we’re obsessed with this music culture icon?!
