Artist Biography
“Weird Al” Yankovic is the American comedy musician, songwriter, producer, and accordion‑wielding satirist whose meticulously engineered body of work has transformed parody from a novelty into an enduring art form, blending spot‑on musical mimicry with sharp cultural observation and technical precision that spans more than four decades. Born Alfred Matthew Yankovic in Downey, California in 1959, he first gained national attention in the early 1980s by layering humorous, lyrical twists onto contemporary hits — from his breakout “Eat It,” a send‑up of Michael Jackson’s Beat It, to later classics like “Amish Paradise” and “White & Nerdy” — all while deliberately securing permissions from the original artists to respect musical rights. Yankovic’s technical craft extends beyond parody into original compositions, polka medleys that deconstruct pop and rock with accordion‑driven complexity, and intricately produced music videos that echo and subvert pop tropes as effectively as his recordings, earning him multiple Grammy Awards and a career that has sold millions of albums and kept him vital in both comedy and music spheres. He has now played over 2,000 shows with his 2,000th show at Shaky Knees 2025.
