Artist Biography
Hemlocke Springs—the project of North Carolina–born singer, songwriter, and producer Isimeme “Naomi” Udu—represents a distinctly modern convergence of DIY production, internet virality, and technically adventurous alt-pop composition. Emerging in 2022 while completing postgraduate studies in medical informatics, Udu began self-releasing bedroom-produced tracks that quickly gained traction online, culminating in the viral success of “Girlfriend,” a synth-driven, character-forward single that showcased her ability to merge theatrical lyricism with tight, hook-centric songwriting . Her work draws heavily from 1980s synth-pop and early-2000s electronic influences, translating lo-fi production techniques into layered arrangements built around elastic vocal phrasing, bright melodic structures, and rhythmically playful programming . Following her debut EP Going…Going…Gone! (2023) and the expansive full-length The Apple Tree Under the Sea (2026), Hemlocke Springs has continued refining a sound that balances digital immediacy with conceptual ambition, turning self-engineered recordings into dynamic live performances that retain both their technical intricacy and offbeat emotional charm, positioning her as a rising force within the evolving landscape of indie and alternative pop.
