Body Ocean- Dotted Line

House duo Body Ocean releases their new Dotted Line EP, out now via Dirtybird Records.

A bold two-track offering that embraces the wonky sounds and off-kilter tones that embody the Dirtybird brand, Dotted Line showcases the multi-dimensional stylings of Body Ocean. The titular track is a rhythmic slow-burner, rolling with syncopated synth melodies that bounce off a motley of percussive elements. Its companion, ‘Yes Sir’, takes a softer approach as it envelops the listener in long, wavy synth stabs, inserting eccentric accents as a nod to the duo’s unconventional nature. Together, these two tracks represent the sonic dichotomy explored throughout Body Ocean’s catalog.

George Porter Jr, Eddie Roberts, Robert Walter, & Nikki Glaspie- Boots In Place

“Boots in Place” sets the tone of Floki Sessions as the first track on the upcoming collaboration between George Porter Jr. (The Meters), Eddie Roberts (The New Mastersounds), Robert Walter (Greyboy Allstars & Roger Waters), and Nikki Glaspie (The Nth Power). Recorded during a studio retreat at Floki Studios off the Troll Valley Peninsula in Northern Iceland, Glaspie brought in the astutely funky groove as a blank canvas for the other collaborators to layer their ideas over. Upon returning from Iceland, Roberts had invited vocalist Erica Falls (formerly of Galactic) to perform at Color Red’s 4th-year anniversary party at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver, CO, and coupled her visit with collaborating on a song on the forthcoming record. Falls had originally thought she was composing a song for George to sing over and penned the lyric “My Name is George Porter Jr.” in the opening verse. After realizing that it was a misunderstanding and she would be singing the song in addition to penning the lyrics, the lyric was changed to “My Name is George Porter Jr.” The proclamation solidifies the steadfast nature of the lead track paying respects to George’s living legacy as one of the fieriest funkmesiters of all time and bassist of GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award-winners, The Meters. The track was cemented with the addition of horn parts arranged by Eric “Benny” Bloom of Lettuce who laid down trumpet and brought in Nate Miller on saxophone.

Honey Island Swamp Band- Second Son

“Second Son” by Honey Island Swamp Band is the lead single off of the band’s debut Color Red album Custom Deluxe coming out on June 23rd. It is the band’s first release since 2016 with a collection of songs recorded between 2018-2022. With a slick throwback feel that feels like 70s action flicks such as Superfly and Starsky & Hutch, the song was written in collaboration between vocalist/guitarist Aaron Wilkinson and keyboardist Chris Spies and recorded at Color Red Studios during a 2-day session. While Wilkenson is the second son of a second son and the song is autobiographical in that sense, he tends to approach songwriting writing about characters as opposed to the author’s experiences heavily inspired by Steely Dan. In this case, he is envisioning a character who is a vagabond living hard and road weary. The track also features frequent Color Red collaborators vocalist Adryon de Leon and Madrid-based guitarist Lucas de Mulder. The track release comes ahead of the group’s Sunday afternoon fairgrounds performance at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

ZOOTAH & Mingue – Cherry Pop

Austrian underground bass house duo ZOOTAH has joined forces with the talented singer-songwriter Mingue to create their latest summer anthem, ‘Cherry Pop.’ With a reputation for extraordinary sound design, ZOOTAH is ready to make their mark on the global music scene with their debut on STMPD RCRDS.

The track is a fusion of bass and tech house, with big room elements, making it a must-have addition to any summer playlist. ‘Cherry Pop’ was born during a long studio session when Mingue came up with a smokey one-liner that sparked the duo’s creativity. They were immediately drawn to the double-sided meaning of the lyrics, and with the recent support of Martin Garrix on another song, they wanted to create a similar vibe.

ZOOTAH and Mingue spent a good amount of time together during the studio session, perfecting the track’s sound and ensuring that it would be a hit with their fans. The end result is a track that perfectly showcases ZOOTAH’s exceptional sound design and Mingue’s captivating vocals.
