Hey! It’s December 11th and we are back with our weekly roundup feature! Check back in with us next week for the latest music news!
ALPHA 9- Final Frontier
B4DFRi3ND & RYL0- F4r from Perf4ct
Chicago-bred, Los-Angeles-based alternative pop project B4DFRi3ND is an experiment in amorphous identity. Spearheaded by the artist formerly known as Melo Makes Music (who has collaborated with names such as Ravyn Lenae, Kweku Collins, and Taylor Bennett), B4DFRi3ND is both a solo act and an interdisciplinary collective.
Now, B4DFRi3ND returns with their new single, “F4r from Perf4ct,” a collaboration with rising alt-pop singer/songwriter RYL0, who has dominated 2022 with inclusions on Spotify’s New Music Friday, Fresh Finds, and Hyperpop playlists, and songs with artists such as Fraxiom, Sabby Sousa, and DJ Re:Code. This is the second song between the two innovators, following B4DFRi3ND‘s remix of RYL0‘s “I’m In Love (With You)“.

Beat Awfuls- Interstate Skeletons
Beat Awfuls announces a new LP, PAWS, due Feb. 10, 2023. The first single on PAWS is “Interstate Skeletons,” a saturated mid-tempo track that delivers hard-won insights into abuse, all while testing and teasing its own pop sensibility. Playful synths and Casio drum fills contrast the cutting angles of the guitar riffs, giving the track a heightened energy. With lyrics like, “why do people even promise to be vulnerable and honest,” we hear Vicini process his trauma while he searches for something shiny through the dark.

Behind You- Aries
Eora / Sydney-based punk trio, Behind You, share a noisy new track, ‘Aries’. Behind You have an existing distinct style: guttural vocals, heavily distorted guitars, fuzzy delayed vocals, and unanticipated, cleverly timed drops that dissolve into a hypnotic, pounding bass. ‘Aries’ pushes forward beyond this, leaning further into an industrial tone, adding a mix of percussion that is bare and free of reverb, with moments of stripped-back relentless drones and monotonous vocals in the coda.

Bridal Party- Pool
Art-pop quintet Bridal Party share the music video for “Pool”, the second single from their forthcoming LP Cool Down (out on February 15th). This track outlines the joy and challenge of coming out of your shell after periods of isolation. The lyrics of “Pool” were penned by guitarist Joseph Leroux in a demo in early 2019, their mantra-like simplicity inspired by the Porches album of the same name. “I wanted the lyrics to feel potent and understated. They were written with building myself up in mind, in a time when I was looking for a lot of validation from other people. I wanted to remind myself with a song, of the value of choosing yourself and choosing periods of quiet, before coming back into your communities.”
