December 4th Weekly Roundup Feature

How the heck is it December 4th??? Anyway, we’re back with our weekly roundup feature! Check back in with us next week for the latest music news!

Alex Arias- Wasting My Time

Produced by guitarist Alex Arias and the band, Wasting My Time (out now via all DSPs) is a 3-song taste of what’s to come on Venice Beach-based indie-punk band Strawberry Fuzz’s first “proper” LP release. Building on the reaction to 2021’s collection of raw demos, Fuzztapes Vol.1, the band documents their experience in the dirty underside of LA life, from sniping at the scene kids on the east side of LA to calling out the elites of the Westside beach cities – as well as critiquing surf conditions. Strawberry Fuzz aren’t looking to reinvent the wheel, more to slash the tires and Wasting My Time is a perfect introduction to their misdemeanors.

He’s kicking off an album campaign on Bassrush Records by unveiling the first salvo from the LP, running up with a collab that brings on producer Glenwood! and Compton-grown rapper KANIN. “Till I Die” gets its voracious energy from rap vocals about ballin’ out till it’s game over, and those sky high aspirations are backed up by the track’s throbbing, ominous builds and wompy riddim beat. Hekler is closing out the year with a performance alongside JOYRYDE and Nitepunkat The North Warehouse (Portland). KANIN has garnered praise from hip-hop publications such as XL Magazine, HotNewHipHop, 2DopeBoyz

Genre-bending electronic artist Mike Inzano, better known as INZO, has returned with a new song, “Drift Like A Cloud, Flow Like Water.” The track features words by English philosopher Alan Watts who also appeared on the 2018 hit “Overthinker.” The title “Drift Like A Cloud, Flow Like Water” comes directly from a quote by Watts, whose work was popularized in the 20th century and best known for interpreting Eastern traditions of Buddhism, Taoism, and Hinduism for a western audience. Both “Drift Like A Cloud, Flow Like Water” and “Overthinker” feature audio clips of Watts’ public lectures interwoven with INZO’s sonic interpretations of those concepts, reinvigorating decades-old recordings and creating a symbiotic plane for cutting-edge electronic music and centuries-old philosophical thought to coexist within.

Primavera Sound

Look for yourself in the Primavera Sound 2023 line-up… and find yourself. Because we assure you that you are there. After twenty editions, the festival is the mirror in which the community that will come from near and far to Barcelona and for the first time to Madrid next June looks at itself and recognises itself, but after everything it has experienced, this reflection goes in two directions, marking the richest musical itinerary we can think of: Primavera Sound also looks for and finds itself in its own audience. The learning is therefore twofold, just like the venues where a line-up will be deployed in which everything matters, full of surprises and at the same time familiar, recently revealed in an ad presented by Cupra. The Parc del Fòrum, from the 1st to the 3rd of June, and the Ciudad del Rock in Arganda del Rey, from the 8th to the 10th of June, will host the main days of Primavera Sound 2023 in two cities that will also mirror each other on two consecutive weekends. Wherever, however, I’ll be your mirror.

All tickets for Primavera Sound Barcelona 2023 and Primavera Sound Madrid 2023 will go on sale on Thursday 1st December at 12:00 noon CET at DICE: full festival tickets will be 325 € (+ booking fee), day-tickets will be 125 € (+ booking fee) and double full festival tickets (Primavera Sound Barcelona + Primavera Sound Madrid) will be 520 € (+ booking fee). The VIP full festival tickets and day tickets and full festival tickets in instalments for both festivals will also be available on DICE.

I said, ‘I guess I have to wait till next year to see you at this Christmas party again, huh?.’ And, for the next 3 years, that is when I saw Eve: on Christmas Eve at that annual party. Sora- Crystal

Sora makes his Heaven Sent debut with his latest track, Crystal. It lives up to its name delivering twinkling melodies which shine as bright as the title suggests, and a heavy final drop which cuts like shards. When asked what the main idea behind this track is, Sora said,

“The inspiration for this track came from the idea of combining my newer melodic and soft style with my older, heavier production. I wanted crystal to be a sort of ‘gradient’ and give myself the challenge of blending the two seamlessly.” The melancholic vocals paired with the emotional melodies in the first drop, give the listener a sense of longing for what once was. This feeling of longing is replaced at the end with one of angst and determination, which shines through thanks to Sora’s expertly crafted, heavy basses.

Taleen Kali- Fine Line

“”Fine Line” kicks off side B of the record. I wanted to explore the ways we feel marked by love and pain. How much of an impact the smallest of impressions can make. And how they can feel when they fade. I wrote this song in the summer of 2018 right when the last album Soul Songs was coming out. The process of putting out my first solo record was so strange and cathartic that a handful of new songs just came spilling out during that time, and this was the first one. I really wanted there to be a demarcation for side B of Flower of Life so “Fine Line” is written in a minor key, setting the tone for the 2nd half of the album.” -Taleen Kali
