Lightning In A Bottle: A Sustainable, Family-Friendly Lakeside Music Festival

Lightning In A Bottle comes back once again to the shores of beautiful Lake San Antonio, situated in the Central Coast region of California. What initially started out as just a private birthday celebration back in 2000, is now one of the largest transformation festivals out there.

An Enriching Experience For The Whole Family

Being an all-ages event, Lightning In A Bottle is wonderfully family-friendly and, in fact, sees plenty of people join the festivities along with their kids. If you’ve been wanting to take your family on a mini-vacation, this might be the perfect weekend getaway, with plenty of fun, educational activities for both kids and teenagers. The festival event provides a campground geared specifically towards parents and their children.

Fun In The Water

This will be the 5th time the festival takes place at San Antonio Reservoir Recreation Area, although it’s just the 2nd year that the lake happens to actually be filled with water, thanks to the fact that 2017 was the state’s wettest year in over a century. Attendees are allowed to take a swim in the lake and play in the water to their heart’s content, a perfect way to cool off in the daytime.

A Diverse Line-Up

One of our favorite things about Lightning In A Bottle is how diverse and different their line-up usually is. This year’s roster includes the likes of Zhu, Griz, Giraffage, The Black Madonna, Walker & Royce, Tokimonsta, and many more. There are 7 stages and you’re guaranteed to find something you can stomp your feet to and lose yourself in.

The Greenest Festival In The United States

Did you know that Lightning In A Bottle is the only festival in the U.S. to win the an award from A Greener Festival five years in a row? According to research by A Greener Festival, 87% of LIB attendees re-use their tent and 59% shared the car journey to the event with other people. The festival organizers strive to make the event as environmentally sustainable as possible by investing in LED stage lighting and solar-powered lights, giving the attendees free water in order to reduce waste from plastic packaging, and so on. The Green Team, a volunteer-based group within the event, educates festival-goers on composting and recycling.

No Time To Get Bored

It’s truly difficult to get bored at Lightning In A Bottle, considering there’s just so many activities to partake in. Of course, the festival provides plenty of entertainment from a musical standpoint, but that’s not all: you will also find hands-on workshops, healing sessions, food-focused classes, an immersive trading post, yoga, meditation spaces, daily Sacred Fire gatherings, and of course, live painting and art installations (after all, it is a music and ART festival!). If you’ve ever been to Coachella, you might notice that the art installations are slightly similar in style and vision, and that’s because those are also curated by The Do Lab, the company that organizes Lightning In A Bottle.

Good Vibes All Weekend

Those of us who attended Lightning In A Bottle in its past editions all agree on the fact that it has some of the friendliest, most accepting attendees around. It doesn’t matter where you come from, you will become part of a large, loving family the moment you step foot into the festival.

Lightning In A Bottle 2018 will be taking place from Wednesday, May 23rd through Monday, May 28th. Tickets are still available and can be bought here.
