New Years’ festivals are some of our favorites, and Decadence CO 2021 going into 2022 maintained that fact. It wasn’t my first time in the beautiful state of Colorado, but it was my first time in the city, and the overall experience deserves ROUNDS of applause. Here’s my recap of the experience!
One of my favorite parts of Decadence was the diversity of genres across stages. The Vector stage primarily served the house heads, while the Radius stage kept it heavy. If I wanted a break from dancing and shuffling, I could go stomp and headbang – and vice versa. This balance was crucial to my experience as I sometimes have random cravings for different genres midset.
I didn’t know a lot of the artists on day 1, which gave me infinite more time to check out other artists. I started my night off with William Black who absolutely threw down with some of the touchy-feely big room followed by some bangers. He was the first set of the night, and it was a 10/10 start. When Zeds Dead came on, I felt it was absolutely necessary to cry during Collapse and Eyes of Fire. I remember listening to Eyes of Fire when I first started hooping back in 2018, and it took me back down memory lane. It was GREAT.
NYE…a nonstop party.
We continued our early-to-mid 2010’s joy with The Chainsmokers. I had such a blast with their set, which had the classics, some newer favorites like “Deep End” by John Summit, trap VIPs, and more. I wouldn’t have been upset if they played “Selfie”, but definitely glad they didn’t.
Subtronics threw down (no surprise there) and ended his set with the just-released Zeds Dead collab. My group and I had a plushie octopus and we started a WHOLE headbanging circle around this octopus and it was crazy.
Zhu brought us into the New Year, and a few minutes before we entered the New Year he dropped RL Grime, and let me tell you I went INSAAANE. My group and I had a moment of sheer gratitude to start 2022.
After what felt like forever of no gatherings and music festivals, it feels wonderful to be surrounded by friends and strangers. It warms our core, our heart and brings us back to the joy we’ve all missed.
