Artist Biography

Paramore, a pop-punk group led by Hayley Williams, has been a staple in the emo scene since the mid-2000s. The band is from Franklin, Tennessee where Hayley moved to town from Mississippi in 2002. She met brothers Josh and Zac Farro at a music program for homeschooled students. At age 13, Hayley caught the attention of Atlantic Records who signed her as a solo artist. She convinced the label to let her put together a full lineup with her local friends, and in 2004 Paramore was formed with Hayley on vocals, Josh and Zac on guitar and drums, Jason Bynum on guitar, and Jeremy Davis on bass. The band co-signed with Fueled by Ramen soon after forming and released their debut album in 2005 titled All We Know Is Falling. Paramore found themselves playing multiple years on the lost but never forgotten Warped Tour. The band went through some lineup changes resulting in a quartet of Hayley, the Farro brothers, and Jeremy. In 2007, Paramore released their second album Riot! which went platinum within 13 months and got the group a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. Around this time Taylor York, a friend of Hayley, joined the band on guitar. The band toured heavily in support of their second album but found time to contribute two songs to the Twilight soundtrack, including the single “Decode.” In 2009, Paramore released their third album Brand New Eyes which debuted at number two on the Billboard 200. The single “The Only Exception” became the band’s highest-charting single in the U.S. The year after this album’s release the Farro brothers left the band due to tensions within the group, with Josh writing a blog post talking about the band’s history leading to his reasons for leaving. In 2011, Paramore released the single “Monster” which was included on the Transformers: Dark of the Moon soundtrack and was the first song recorded with York taking over all guitar parts. Paramore’s fourth studio album Paramore came in 2013, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200 and winning the Grammy for Best Rock Song with “Ain’t It Fun.” In 2015, Jeremy left the band over a legal dispute over royalties. Hayley and York moved forward with the band, taking back drummer Zac Farro as a full-time member. Paramore continued to find success with their releases, even with taking a brief hiatus as a band, with their latest album being 2023’s This Is Why.
