Artist Biography

Amyl and the Sniffers are the ferociously kinetic Australian punk‑pub‑rock quartet from Melbourne whose visceral, high‑octane sound bridges the raw aggression of 1970s proto‑punk and garage rock with a modern edge that refuses polish in favor of unfiltered impact. Fronted by the electrifying Amy Taylor alongside drummer Bryce Wilson, guitarist Declan Mehrtens, and bassist Gus Romer, the band formed in 2016 and quickly churned out blistering early EPs before signing to Rough Trade and releasing a self‑titled debut in 2019 that captured their sonic ethos: short, explosive tracks built on snarling guitars, pounding drums, and Taylor’s snarled vocals that feel equal parts defiance and exhilaration. Across acclaimed albums like Comfort to Me (2021) and Cartoon Darkness (2024), they’ve refined a production aesthetic that amplifies instinctive energy without taming it, earning multiple ARIA Awards and international festival slots while bringing a technically disciplined yet feral performance style to stages around the world — a blend of craftsmanship and chaos that makes their punk rock feel both deeply rooted and urgently contemporary.
