700 Feels- 4 Ya Kiss/ 4 Ya Bliss

Over the course of the two tracks, 700 Feel have taken a step forward to establish their warped, genre-defying sound, pulling together ambient electronic, bass-heavy and dub into a sweeping ambit. Carefully constructed, ‘4 Ya Kiss / 4 Ya Bliss’ balances sound design with skewing rhythms that are guided by feeling, pushing their music to reach a transportative state that’s as human as it is synthetic.

Joseph Stevens- Pictionary Video

With his third album as Peel Dream Magazine, Joseph Stevens beckons you toward a fabulist, zig-zag world entirely of his own design. On Pad (out Oct. 7 on Slumberland / Tough Love), he eschews the fuzzy glories of his indie pop past – vibraphone trembles while chamber strings take center stage. The curtains lift to reveal banjo. Chimes. Farfisa. And as he lets out a moan atop the album’s title track, it becomes clear that this is no ordinary performance. A conceptual work about losing oneself when all they have is themself, Pad gestures towards an exciting new future for Stevens’ pop moniker by reimagining its own very existence.

Lily Donat

I started writing this song on the back of a motorcycle, looking up at redwoods. I started to feel the divinity of nature, and it felt separate from any people or memories associated with it; the trees were beautiful and perfect on their own. That’s when the lyric “And he didn’t build it” popped into my head, and it resonated deeply. This song is a celebration of wildness, adventure, and femininity that is separate from the boyfriend you traipsed through the woods with, or even the patriarchy that is so embedded in our culture, and aims to dull the untamed feminine force that blooms with nature. Originally more solemn and folk-y, the song became an optimistic pop banger in the studio. Stefan Mac, a great previous collaborator, produced the song.

On “on air (4am version)”, Moby turns in a deep-house re-rub of his triumphant collab, lifting the original out of its delicate gospel arrangement whilst retaining the towering lead vocal. An experimental musician based in Los Angeles, serpentwithfeet’s characteristic silky neo-soul-inspired voice infuses the song with emotion, which Moby wanted to continue highlighting.

No Mana- Yesterday

Multi-faceted LA-based producer No Mana made his Monstercat debut today with his feel-good single, “Yesterday.” Leading with a weightless emotive vocal, the track is fused with sonic and visual elements reminiscent of the ‘90s and 2000’s. Fueled by old but cherished memories, No Mana expresses his nostalgia through the euphoric melodies and bright chords, while modernizing the classic sound with his own electro stylings. The self-produced cover art is a testament to his pixel art skills and a nod to the single’s theme, featuring throwback relics like a Tamagotchi, a Hasbro i-Dog, and a first generation iPod. “Yesterday” showcases a different side of No Mana’s musicianship which he’ll continue to explore on the label.

One South Lark- Till September

Our upcoming EP “‘Till September” captures the fleeting nostalgia of a summer gone too soon. Our inspiration on this project ranged from the new wave music of The Cure to the pop-poetry of Taylor Swift, creating a unique retro-yet-modern sound. We wrote it while in our junior year of college, but all at separate universities. Songwriting sessions full of lyrical brainstorming were held over Zoom and voice memos containing jangly guitar riffs and Beach Boys-inspired harmonies were iMessaged back and forth. In our few breaks from school, we hustled to Bogalusa, Louisiana, and recorded the five tracks at Studio In The Country. We spent hours in the secluded swamp studio with our sound engineer Ben Mumphrey perfecting the indie pop sound we were going for. With only three members, we created and produced every sound heard on the record, often playing more than one instrument each. The result is a project we’re proud to say is our best work yet, from the atmospheric power of the overdriven guitar in “Malibu” to the danceable Motown beat of “Wasting My Time.”

Santa Barbara indie-rock outfit Plastic Harpoons share “Modern World,” the title track and latest single off their forthcoming LP, Modern World, out October 21 via Lolipop Records.

Said vocalist and songwriter Taylor Casey on their newest single:

“This was the first song that I wrote during Covid. We were a couple of weeks into quarantine and I was pissed. I’m an extrovert and I couldn’t see my friends. I was stuck at home staring at a screen just to talk with them and spending too much time on social media. I decided that I needed to purposely make a change and start playing music more. I usually don’t like to write with other people around and my girlfriend was quarantined with me so I had zero alone time. I forced myself to get over it and this song popped out a day later.”

“I wrote this song after a long desert drive in the summer — where the temperature and the endless road almost warps your perception of the landscape and of your own mind — the sky changes sometimes rapidly from dust clouds in the distance to bright sun to heavy rain. A continuation of his “hypnotic, charming slice of indietronica” [EARMILK], this lush cut from Pretty Green finds equilibrium between the outside and inside worlds; evergreen synths akin to Four Tet or Toro y Moi nestle alongside haptic percussion, field recordings, and soft vox á la Caribou or James Blake, crafting a sonic symmetry metaphoric of the balance between self and Earth.
