Artist Biography

Lil Nas X, born Montero Lamar Hill, is a rapper, singer/songwriter, and queer icon who has pushed the boundaries of social and music conventions by doing his own version of hip-hop. In 2018, he dropped the mixtape Nasarati which came right before “Old Town Road” which went viral and got him into the mainstream. The single is under two minutes but climbed into the Top 15 of the Hot 100. The song almost topped the Hot Country Songs Chart but Billboard decided it didn’t have enough country music within the song. In 2019, Lil Nas X signed with Columbia who released and EP 7 which included “Old Town Road” and “Rodeo” featuring Cardi B. This same year he was nominated for six Grammy Awards. He won two trophies for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and for Best Music Video. In 2021, Lil Nas X returned with “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” which became an international hit. Soon after he followed with “Industry Baby” featuring Jack Harlow and his full-length album Montero which had a variety of features including Doja Cat, Elton John, and Miley Cyrus.
